What initially drew you to a career in the commercial real estate world/how did you end up at Colliers?
Never in a million years did I think I’d end up working in the commercial real estate world, but it does feel like a full circle moment. After moving back to Pittsburgh after living in India for 5 years, I grew to thoroughly enjoy the house hunting process: I was always there with my parents at every house tour, constantly searching for new listings and fully immersing myself in this exciting process. Flash forward to the last few months of my senior year of college, and I was close to accepting defeat. I had not found a full time position yet, but just as I was about to call it quits, I was sent a job description for Colliers. I instantly felt motivated and excited to see a position that aligned with many significant areas of interest in my life, even one that I never thought I’d actually be able to explore to any degree. Upon interviewing and meeting the team, I was given such a great impression of the company culture, team, and how much everyone genuinely enjoys working here. Getting the call that I was offered the position is still a notable moment in my life that I think about often, and I am very grateful to the team for giving me a chance!
What do you find most rewarding about working at Colliers/in CRE?
I thrive in a fast-paced setting, and being able to work with so many determined, hard working, and talented individuals has been such a rewarding experience. I have learned almost everything I know about graphic design from our Marketing Supervisor Meg Jansen and our other Marketing Coordinator Connor Durko, and it was very cool to be trusted to jump right in, taking responsibility for assignments pretty soon after starting. It has also been awesome to be able to track my progress and skills as a designer the past year and a half, obtaining skills that I’ve always dreamed of having. The Pittsburgh office prides itself on its great company culture, and I could not appreciate it more. The people really make the place; being excited to go to work every day has been a huge contributor to my success. There is not a day where I don’t feel supported, and having so many mentors that always have my/the team’s best interests in mind is something I will always be grateful for.
In your opinion, what is the key to building a great work environment/culture?
Always being open-minded and never closing yourself off to constructive criticism. I have grown significantly since starting at Colliers, and I attribute a significant amount of my success to the environment I was able to learn and grow in. The supportive culture creates an environment where speaking up and asking questions is not something I need to be afraid of, especially since I am the youngest one in the office. Working alongside so many like-minded individuals makes me strive to do better and work harder to improve my skillset everyday. It also helps that everyone always has a smile on their face and genuinely enjoys working here with each other!
Outside of work, do you have any hobbies or interests that complement or enhance your professional life?
Since middle school, I have always been thoroughly involved in the arts. Whether it was taking music lessons, performing in musicals/plays, or composing music, I am constantly using the skills I gained from these activities in my day to day life. I have gained strong communication and time-management skills from always participating in a show or two and juggling many major time commitments at once, growing to love always working in a high pressure environment! I have developed a strong work-ethic over the years, maintaining an organized system of completing tasks to ensure everyone gets what they need as fast and best as possible. I am extremely grateful to Colliers and our team for allowing me to continue to pursue my interests in music and theatre, always supporting me every step of the way, and affording me the opportunity to better myself on a personal and professional level every day!
